Stephen Plant, MBA I.Eng.MIET
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Stephen was appointed as the NET Business Development Manager in 2008, following a comprehensive review of the NET AM2/FICA assessment. A fully trained JIB approved electrician, he has over 35 years’ experience in the electrical contracting and training fields. Formerly head of the electrical installation department of a Further Education college, Stephen has substantial experience in the training of both apprentices and mature operatives. Since 2000 he has worked as Regional Education and Training Manager within the Education and Training department of the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA), covering the Northern Ireland, North West, North East, East, East Midlands and West Midlands Regions. Stephen holds a Teaching Certificate in Education and an MBA in Education Management.
His role:
- Project review manager, with key contribution to a full-scale review of the AM2/FICA assessment and relevant NET operations during 2006 & 2007
- Principal contact point for the AM2/FICA UK assessment centre network of 44 NET licensed assessment centres
- Technical liaison between NET Board & management internally and externally between the assessment centre network, NET and industry
- Provision of expert support and guidance to the AM2/FICA centre network
- Development of the network, monitoring visits and managing quality assurance
- Overseeing the development and implementation of the new AM2/FICA assessment- due to launch the revised structure across the network in 2010
- Working to launch a Hazardous Areas Interest Group with other interested industry groups
- Working closely with SummitSkills, to develop NET’s activities in line with national frameworks
Other activities
- Leads the annual ‘Training Bridge’ Apprentice Exchange Programme between the UK and Germany, sponsored by the British Council
- Member of the judging panel for the UK SkillElectric National Skills Competition organised by SummitSkills (www.skillmande.org.uk)
- Responsible for the introduction of the innovative mobile AM2 centre (owned and managed by GTEC Training Ltd, (www.gtectraining.co.uk) in response to high demand for AM2 assessments nationwide
