Iain Macdonald BA (Hons) PGCE FITOL MIoD
CHIEF EXECUTIVE

A champion of skills and training throughout his career, Iain became the
Chief Executive of NET in 2006. He holds a post-graduate teaching
qualification and NVQ assessor qualifications and worked in the
Metropolitan Police Training School at Hendon during the last 7 years of a
wide-ranging police career. There, he designed and developed recruit
training and management systems, which earned him a commendation for
innovation. Iain also fulfils the role of Head of Education and Training at
the electrical industry’s leading UK Trade Association, the Electrical
Contactors’ Association (ECA). Through his various roles, Iain participates
in numerous boards and committees for the ECA, the Joint Industry Board
(JIB) and SummitSkills.
Overview of role:
- Responsible for NET strategy, policy, planning and direction
- Develops effective relationships with NET stakeholders: the ECA,
SELECT and Unite
the Union, and strategic partnerships with the Joint Industry Board (JIB) Scottish Joint Industry Board
(SJIB) SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for Building Services Engineering, and other relevant
industry organisations - Directs NET’s marketing, PR and external communication strategies
- Ensures that NET delivers its remit and objectives as a registered charity
- Addvice on personnel training and qualification pathways for specialist sectors of the electrotechnical industry
