About the AM2 and FICA Assessment

AM2/FICA is an intensive practical assessment, in which candidates undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. The formal title of the AM2 and FICA is the Assessment of Occupational Competence (AOC) for the UK electrical installation industry.

The exercises include installation, inspection and testing and fault-finding and the work must comply with the current IEE Wiring Regulations and be carried out in line with Health & Safety best practice. National Electrotechnical Training (NET) is a registered, pan-UK industry training charity, which owns and licenses the assessment.

The AOC undertaken by candidates in England and Wales is known as the AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2) and the AOC undertaken in Scotland is known as FICA (Final Integrated Competency Assessment).

Reflecting the industry

The AM2 and FICA have been an essential element of industry qualification for nearly 25 years and during that time the Assessment has been continually reviewed to ensure that it remains fit for purpose and its content and structure reflects changes in technology, legislation and working practices.
